Cruckberry dispersal exceeds expectations

A successful dispersal sale of the Cruckberry herd of pedigree Holstein dairy cattle at Shewsbury Auction mart saw prices exceeding all expectations topping at 2300 guineas. 

 

The herd, bred by Geoff Fletcher over 35 years used top quality sires for type and production, attracting a large company of buyers from a wide area.

 

Top price was paid for Cruckbury Win Cookie, a March calved heifer, which went to Mr Nutter, Stafford. He also took second top price at 2250 guineas for Cruckbury Forbidden Pandora 3.

 

Ten animals exceeded the 2000 guineas mark, including Cruckbury James Bonusia II and in calf heifer to Richfield Convincer Lawson, selling for 2200 guineas to Mr Fenton, Stafford.

 

Young stock trade was also good, with bulling heifers peaking at 1200 guineas for Cruckberry Jordan Robin PI and Cruckbury Jordon Jean PI, bought by Mr Merrick Probert, Frodesley and Mr Jack Taylor, Burnbrae, respectively.

 

Calves were possibly the deares of all peaking at 1020 guineas for Cruckberry Jordan Jean II.

 

Averages; 56 cows and heifers in-milk, ÂŁ1480.5. Eight in-calf heifers- ÂŁ1827. 26 Bulling heifers- ÂŁ1016 and 27 heifer calves – ÂŁ738.11. Overall average was ÂŁ1237.16 a head
