Dairy cross calf bags Easter Championship at Gisburn

Gisburn Auction Marts Easter show and sale of rearing calves last week was hotly contested with a total of 251 calves forward. Pre-sale show judge David Albutt, Driffield chose a six week old British Blue bull sired by Condor De Senonchamp, out of a fourth lactation Holstein Friesian dam from John Bailey, Chipping as the champion, which went on to sell for ÂŁ480 to John Swan, Little Ouseburn, York.

PHOTO1.JPGThe highest price of the day at ÂŁ525 was for an eight week Charolais bull from Andrew Robinson, Gisburn, Clitheroe to Tony Binns, Clint, Harrogate.

Edgar Davis, battled his way over from Sheffield, after the heavy snow of Wednesday to take reserve champion with a five week old Simmental cross bull which went onto make ÂŁ495.

PHOTO2.JPGOverall British Blues averaged ÂŁ384 and heifers ÂŁ311. Limousin bulls averaged ÂŁ347 and heifers ÂŁ344. Charolais bulls averaged ÂŁ460 and heifers ÂŁ338. Native calves with names sires continue to sell extremely well with Angus and Hereford cross bulls both selling to ÂŁ345. The 78 black and white bull calves on offer averaged ÂŁ124.
