Dairy sale peaks at 2,050gns

A packed ringside of buyers saw good trade at Ross-on-Wye Cattle Market, with fresh milkers selling to 2,050gns on Thursday (20 November).

Richard Skinner, Gloucester, sold the top priced calved heifer, Oasis Mr Gold Connie 2nd, for 2,050gns to Patrick and Christopher Browning of Berkeley.  The same vendor sold another heifer to the same buyers for 1,950gns.

Phillip and Mathew Sevenoaks, Llangorse, Brecon, sold heifers to 2,000gns and 1,920gns.

Cows peaked at 1,750gns for a fourth calver from Robert and Stephen Jones, Raglan, Monmouthshire.  The same vendor sold two second calvers at 1,750gns, and a Brown Swiss second calver at 1,750gns.

A third calver from Alan Williams, Pontypool sold at 1,700gns.

Dry cows sold to 1,400gns for a Swedish Red cross third calver from D and JM Homer, Wiltshire.

February calving heifers sold to 1,220gns from Reading University.

April calving heifers to 1,150gns from T F Harcombe and Son, Worcester and six-month-old heifer calves from the same home sold to 400gns four times.

A total of 169 cattle were sold to 33 buyers from 12 English and Welsh counties including Devon, Dorset and Denbighshire.
