UK Dairy Day returns to Telford for its fifth year next month (12 September), bringing a host of new features.
As well as the world-class dairy show, there will be a host of new features at this year’s event, including an “innovation zone”.
Throughout the day, speakers will be on hand to give farmers practical advice on how to enhance cow and business performance (see “Sharing Knowledge Zone”).
We take a look at the top five must sees at this year’s event.
1. The Cattle Show
The Cattle Show at UK Dairy Day will feature three national shows – Holstein, Ayrshire and for the first time at the event the Brown Swiss will hold their national show too. This year’s prize pot totals more than £20,000.
2. Sharing Knowledge Zone
The 2018 event sees the return of the first floor area dedicated to knowledge sharing.
This will include tabletop displays promoting industry initiatives, training providers and charities, seminars and presentations on topical subjects, including:
- Winter feeding with low forage availability
- TB and Johne’s
- How to maximise parlour throughput
- Drying off
- Maximising profit per pregnancy
- Farm labour post Brexit
There will also be a careers board displaying the current opportunities within the dairy industry.
3. New products
There will be 300 trade stands, including a new Product Zone that is open to exhibitors that have launched a new product into the market during the past 12 months.
Entries will be reviewed by an industry panel before the event, with 10 shortlisted entries selected to display their innovations at the event. The winning entry will be being selected on the day.
4. Innovation Zone
New to the 2018 event, this area, located in the Newport Suite, will feature a range of innovating businesses that will share information on new concepts and techniques to benefit British dairying.
5. Practical demonstrations
Don’t miss the array of demonstrations throughout the day to develop your learning. The Calf-rearing Zone will offer advice on all aspects of calf rearing, from hygiene to feeding and husbandry.
Tim Carter and his team will also be on hand to demonstrate foot-trimming and knife sharpening, including block work.
