The weekly sale of store cattle at Lancaster had just short of 350 cattle pass through the ring. High quality cattle were good to sell with plainer cattle slightly harder to sell as buyers sheds begin to fill.
Limousin steers sold to a top price of £1,500 from MS Dugdale and Sons of Tewitfield Farm. British Blue steers sold to a top of £1,400 from J and M Cottam, Hill Top closely followed by TJ Parkinson, Church Farm with three steers at £1,370.
Angus steers twice sold to £1,380 firstly from Tim Robinson of Milnthorpe and then from MS Dugdale and Sons of Tewitfield Farm. Heifers sold to a top price of £1,300 for a Limousin heifer from T Potter & Son of Lowgill.
An entry of cows and calves forward today mainly made up of older cows with younger calves sold to a top price of £1180 from Ballacutchel Farms, Isle of Man with Angus cows from Philip Onions selling to £1,060.
OTM and Cast Cattle
A larger entry of cast cows forward this week with plainer cows a sharper trade than previous week with good meaty cows continuing to be good to sell. An entry made up mainly of parlour cows. The sale topped at 209.5ppk for a young bull from. Cast heifers sold to a top of 191.5ppk for a Fleckvieh from JJ and MA Park & Son of Low Sizergh Farm. Cast cows sold to a top 174.5ppk for a Charolais from Ballacutchel Farms Ltd of Isle of Man. All cast cows forward averaged 110ppk.
Calves & Stirks
A strong number of calves and stirks forward again this week at Lancaster saw calves sell to a sharper trade then over the previous weeks. Calves sold to a top price of £395 for a six week old British Blue Bull from CG Birkett of Carnforth who also sold British Blue bull calves to £352 and heifer calves to £255.
Montbeliarde bull calves sold to £205 from AW and AM Park and Sons, Ellel. Black and whites a stronger trade today for stronger and good quality calves selling to a top of £170 from CG Birkett of Carnforth for 8 week old bull calves with 5 week old calves from WA Ward and Son of Ancliffe Hall selling to £160.
