A ‘Dorset’ freshly calved heifer sold for the top price of 2350gns at the Annual Autumn Gold Sale, Sedgemoor this week.

Dorset Stormy Puff 2 is by Littlebredy Storm Force and out of a grand dam that gave 13,545kgs. She was sold by Ian Diamond.

Regular vendors, Roland and Simon Bulgar sold heifers to 2080gns, with past purchasers keen to secure more cows and heifers from their ‘Bettiscombe’ herd.

Selling at 2050gns was A J Bennett and Sons’ calved heifer, Lily Vordon Orchid 34.

This year’s sale also incorporated the dispersal of the ‘Stenticott’ herd for Sean Stentiford and family. Again it was fresh milk in demand, selling to 1900gns for the September calved second calver, Stenticott Desdemona.

The Bulgars then sold their 17 month old bull, Bettiscombe Shottle Nuts for 1650gns. This one is out of the Ex91-3 Storm Niffy dam and from seven generations of VG and Ex.

An in-calf heifer from the Stenticott consignment then went for 1230gns. This one is a daughter of Alfrag Juror Kendall and is due in December.

A number of red and white heifers were a feature of the herd, with a recently served heifer, Misty Pet Red 4 selling for 1120gns. This price was matched by the bulling heifer, Misty Pet Red 3.

The only calved Jersey heifer of the day was Baycliffe Bess 41 from W Green and Sons. She went for 1100gns.
