Dungannon Limousins top £6720
Hard on the heels of the outstanding demand for the Limousin at Carlisle last weekend, the Limousin Spring Sale held at Dungannon met with a tremendous interest, a crowded sale ring, and a brisk sale which saw a total clearance of all 55 lots forward and with some remarkable prices realised.
Leading the way and selling at £6720 was an impressive seven month old heifer, Lenagh Classy, by Glenrock Spartacus and out of Kype Veronica from Mark Stewart’s Lenagh herd.
This special heifer had caught the eye of Judge Harry Emslie from Peterhead in Aberdeenshire when he placed her first in class, then Female Champion and Reserve Overall Champion. Following this was an outstanding first prize winning 2-year-old heifer from John and Margery Adams’ Fedneyhouse herd, Fedneyhouse Bertha by Millbrook Tanko and out of a Broadmeadows Cannon cow when selling for £6300.
The Show Champion, which also took the Champion Bull award, was from the McKay father and son Ampertaine herd at Upperlands, a 16-month-old bull with great style and presence and with a Beef Value of LM+32, Ampertaine Baron by Bailea Spunkie and out of a Cloughhead Lord cow, selling at £4830.
Standing as Reserve Champion was a well muscled young bull from the Scotchtown Herd of Messrs L & R Allison from Limavady, Scotchtown Brando by Ryedale Paragon and out of Glenrock Niagra which realised £3045.
Standing second and third to the Champion in the second Junior Bull class were two excellent specimens of the breed with Beef Values of LM +35 and +36 respectively and with Elite and Superior classifications from Mr Loughran’s Millgate herd at Cookstown and selling at £4200 and £4305.
