East of England Show 2011: Dairy interbreed championship

A Holstein reigned supreme in the dairy ring yesterday with a September 2005 born cow from Roger and Diane Steeples and son Craig, Fedwells Farm, Kettering, taking home the silverware.

Classified Excellent, Cramar JRV Belle is by ABS Joyrider and out of Cramar Belle and is from 10 generations of VG and EX. She is one of 20 Belles in the family’s herd of 100 pedigree Holsteins.

Belle is in her third lactation and currently yielding 46kg a day – she has already given 8,000 litres at 169 days post-calving and yielded 12,000kg in her second lactation.

In reserve was homebred Jersey cow, Jasi Wet June from Mr J and S Arrowsmith, Brook Farm, Bourne.

June won reserve champion Jersey at Newark and Nottingham Show and will now be heading to Lincoln Show.

Having calved twice, she is yielding 29 litres a day and is one of 30 Jerseys owned by the family in addition to 150 Holsteins.
