East of England Show 2011: Sheep interbreed championship

 

1862011 Sheep Champ web.JPGA ewe from the renowned flock of Dalby Charollais has taken home the supreme sheep interbreed title.

 

Dalby Jessica, put forward by Charles Sercombe, Sandlands farm, Melton Mowbray, is out of Rutland Lightening and by Rockvilla Father Ted. This was her second interbreed title this year, having secured the spot at Newark and Nottingham show. She also received breed champion at Rutland Show.

 

Jessica will now be heading to the Lincolnshire and Royal Welsh Shows.

 

 

1862011 Sheep Res web.JPGTaking reserve was the native breed champion, Knowl Wiloby which also secured interbreed champion at last week’s Suffolk Show. This homebred Oxford Down shearling ram is by Twinwood Hector and out of a homebred dam. He was shown by Harry Middleditch, Granary house, Sudbury and will be returning home to join the flock of 18 Oxford Downs and 25 Hampshires.

 

Mr Middleditch is undecided as to whether Wiloby will be retained in the flock or sold on. However he will be put forward at next month’s breed sale.

 

Judge, Mr S Farmer said the champion had an outstanding carcass and had everything else right on the day.
