East of England Show: Dairy breed champions

 

TS 772012 Holstein Champ.JPGThe dairy interbreed championship is not happening until tomorrow at the East of England Show. However, the breed championships have been judged this morning.

 

Among the Holsteins, it was a heifer in-milk from J R A Steeples of fedwells Farm, Kettering, Northants, which took home the breed championship title. Cramar 1 Affirmed Faith VG88 is a BKB Affirmed daughter, out of Crama Integrity Faith EX.

 

This three-year old, homebred heifer has been calves 12 months and is due to calve in September. She is currently giving 30 litres a day.

In reserve was another from the Steeples, this time Cramar Laramie Valiant Myra VG87. She is by Wedgwood Laramie and out of Cramar Valiant Myra Ex.

 

 

TS 772012 Jersey Champ.JPGAmong the Jerseys, 15 year old Abi Sercombe’s cow in-milk, Southley Hotshot Dalena Design won the breed championship title. She is a Windhavens Hotshot daughter out of Southley Skippers Design. Giving 25 litres a day at 5% fat and 4.2% protein, she won interbreed champion at this year’s Newark and Nottingham Show.

 

Design was purchased in January 2011 and won her heifer in milk class at the Bath and West Show in the same year. She is one of 60 Jersey and Holsteins owned by the Sercombes of Ashfordby, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, and will be heading to Ashby Show next.

 

Reserve was Goodtime Ali Brassiua ET from Mr A Timbury – Goodtime Jerseys, Bolebec Farm, Maulden, Bedford. She is by Bonnyburn Ali Whistler and out of Giprat Belles Brassila.
