East of England Smithfield Festival 2012: Baby Beef supreme champion

Winning the top accolade in the baby beef supremechampionship was Jonathan Lyon, from Lincolnshire, with his continental champion heifer Temptation.This homebred 11-month-old is by the Limousin bull Rossignol and is out of aThirlwall castle Limousin cross heifer.

She tipped the scales at 394kg.

Standing in reserve to Temptation was DonaldMacpherson’s Charolais cross Molly Malone, from Argyll.

Born in February 2012 she was bred by MartinHarold, from Co Donegal and was purchased

By Mr Macpherson after he tapped her out aschampion at Bonniconlon Show in Co Mayo,  Ireland.

She was bred by Martin Harold, from Co Donegal andgoes onto the Highland show next summer. After this she is being kept forbreeding.

Judge Jonathan Maycock said Temptation had “anideal top line and was a “picture from behind.”

He said in reserve the Charolais was a totallydifferent heifer, but that he couldn’t ignore her when she came into the ring.

However on the day he said his champion wasfeminine and slightly sweeter than the one in reserve.
