Easycare rams top 1,600gns at annual breed sale
The Easycare Sheep Society’s Annual sale at Worcester enjoyed what many considered to be nothing short of a rip roaring demand from start to finish and for all classes of stock. There was nothing short of packed alleyways and spirited bidding was almost an understatement it was simply flying.
Rams enjoyed a complete clearance topping at a very creditable 1,600gns for a yearling ram carrying the Myomax gene from H V and M W Thomas’ Pentre flock taken by G H Roper, Tenbury Wells, Worcester. A particularly strong run of rams from Richard Owen, Anglesey topped at 1,280gns to A Rees-Parry, Chepstow, Gwent.
1,100gns was the next highest rams, a yearling from R G Elliott and Son, Kislingbury flock from Northampton secured by local breeder T W Steele, Pershore, Worcs. Roger Elliott enjoyed a very sound following for the remainder of his yearling rams, reaching 920gns to H. Davies, Llanwrst, Conwy, N. Wales.
Ewes enjoyed the same spirited demand as the rams with yearling ewes the pick of the day and topping at ÂŁ171 for two pens from the Cedarsley flock of David and Jill Prosser to G. Hardman, Redmarley, Gloucester and the same vendor having other yearlings at ÂŁ170, ÂŁ168 purchased by I.N. Jones, Chipping Campden, Gloucester.
Two year old ewes found a strong and keen following with T.W. Steele’s annual consignment very much in demand and peaking at ÂŁ139 to T. Davies, Trevethin, Pontypool, Gewnt.
Ewe Lambs also held their own and shape and strength held bidders attention selling to ÂŁ129 for a smart pen from Mrs J.C. Hewitt, Kent to J.C. Jeffrey, Shaftesbury, Dorset.
