Exmoor two-day suckled calf sale sells to £898

  

Exmoor Farmers Livestock Auctions annual two-day sale of suckled calves saw a superb entry 1,539 suckled calves forward.

Trade for steers was brisk, with best bullocks well sort and topping at £898 for Mr B J Woolacott, Oareford Farm. Many others saw a firm trade with lots from Messrs L C and C A South, Farley Water Farm reaching a final call of £885, while Messrs R M and F R Thorne, Mountberry saw a peak of £880 for their calves. Belguim Blues from Messrs R F and S A Davey were the top call of the breed and reached £812.

Heifers had a similarly strong trade with a good turnout of buyers for the day. A total of 727 went under the hammer on Tuesday. An average of £515 was achieved, with the top price of the day going to Mr R Winzer, Glenborough selling a 420kg Charolais to £775.

Others included Messrs L C and C A South making £732 of their Charolais weighing 405kg. Limousins hit a peak for Mr R Dod at £722 and a Charolais from Mr M R Scott and B J Woolacott both fetched the same price.
