Fast trade and a top bid of £2650 at Beeston
Trade throughout was good and inparticular for fresh milking heifers with bidding for the best of these beingparticularly fierce. The best young cows also sold well, but second qualitycows of varying ages were harder to clear. In the young stock section in-calfheifers were in great demand, but maiden heifers were harder to sell.
Prairie Delegate Cornelia a fresh calveddaughter of Watergate Delegate from Mark Bowden, Malpas led the day’s trade at£2650 to F and N Brunt and Sons, Moddershall, Stone who also paid £2500 forHolbeck Outside Primrose, a daughter of Comestar Outside also consigned by MarkBowden.
Next in line was the fresh heiferDanevale Azure Fay, by Cogent Azure, sold giving 34kg a day. She was the choiceof Ben Elkin, Hilderstone, Stone who paid £2450 to acquire this good heifer. Afurther six heifers sold at £2400 each including entries from R G and A and RTLloyd, Anglesey; D W and M N Ishmael, Wigan; J and J M Walmsley, Garstang andJack and Barclay Taylor of Myddle, Shrewsbury.
Messrs Taylor also had the top price cow,Burnbrae Tulip Sincere, a second calf daughter of Subliem Tulip Red who sold toBen Elkin for £2350. In total 35 animals sold for £2000 or more.
Purebred coloured breeds were wellrepresented and were lead by a fresh second calved Shorthorn from David Dent, KirkbyStephen which realised £1820 to E Thomas, Llandudno. A fourth calved Ayrshirecow from A J Thompson and Son, Kent, sold to £1680. A Blue Shorthorn cow from AHowe, Buxton, sold for £1820 to Owen Hughes, Anglesey. A Shorthorn cross heifermade £2000 to Ben Elkin.
In-calf heifers were a solid trade andthe top price was £1800 for Madryn Duster Blodwen from Dylan Jones, Pwllheliand purchased by Colin Weston, Whitchurch. Heifers from Mr Jones’ herd werekeenly sought as he had seven of the eight top prices in this section.
