Females lead Chelford Beef Shorthorn trade

A spirited demand from a packed ringside saw females top the prices at Saturday’s Beef Shorthorn sale at Chelford, with the top call of 2550gns paid for Aylward Blythesome 22 from David Rutherford, Odiham.

This one is an Uppermill Lasoo daughter out of a homebred dam going back to Wenmar Lucious. Sold in-calf to Tofts Judgemental, she was bought by James Fanshawe, Naseby.

Next was another from Mr Rutherford’s draft, Aylward Gypsy Rose 4, another Lasoo daughter. This time out of Aylward Gypsy Rose 2 and was again in-calf to Judgemental. She sold at 2000gns to G H Towers, Wellford. And then at 1950gns was Aylward Blossom 5, another by Lasoo. This one is out of Wenmar Augusta Blossom and sold in calf to Tarrant Waverley. She went to Robert Leach Banbury.

BULLS

In the males on offer trade was led at 2400gns by the pre-sale champion on the day, Meonhill Highland Commando. This Eionmoor Highlander son from LEP Farms, Hampshire, he sold to Jeff Townsend, Southampton.Chelford10 Meonhill Highland Commando.jpgNext best at 1520gns was Camlas Captain from Messrs Gethin, Newtown, Powys. Sirred by Hannibal 1 Schonberg, he is out of Maxton Cinderella 2 and was bought by R W Newns, Mold.

Averages; Nine cows with calves £852.83, one in-calf cow £892.50, three in-calf heifers £1455.99, three maiden heifers £997.50, four bulls £1775; Aylward draft five cows with calves £1211.70, five in calf heifers £1839.60, four maiden heifers £1287.50 (Frank Marshall).
