First championship decided at Royal Highland Winter Fair

The first championship of the day has just been decided with the commercial calf title going to Andrew Anderson with his Limousin cross steer Ade-by-Ali. This March 2008-born entry is homebred from Mr Anderson’s noted show calf producing herd.

Standing reserve was this season’s big winning calf, Mamma Mia from John Smith Jackson, Haltwhistle, Northumberland. By Shire Apollo and out of a Limousin cross dam, Mamma Mia has already taken a number of suckled calf titles this year, including championship at Countryside Live and the East of England Winter Stock Festival.

Among the main cattle classes Robin Roberts and Lerie Hughes’ Charolais cross heifer Smarty Pants has picked up her class title and look’s every inch a serious contender for the overall championship later in the day.
