Flodden Suffolk dispersal tops at 2600gns

ring shot WEB SIZE.jpgThe dispersal of John Laing’s Flodden Suffolk flock at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, saw one of the flock’s stock rams top trade at 2600gns.

Sale leader was the December 2008-born Rookery Reiver. Originally purchased from Shrewsbury last year for 3400gns, this twin male is by Stockton Temtation and is out of a ewe by Haddo Double Diamond and goes back to Muiresk McKelvey. He sold at 2600gs to B and E Stonard, Ripon, North Yorkshire.

Second top price came from the best of the shearling gimmers. At 2400gns I Barbour, Annan, Dumfriesshire, bought a ewe by Conveth Kolossos out of a homebred ewe by Pennan Playboy going back to Glenho Morning Glory.

Next at 1750gns was another of the shearling gimmers, this time a single-born daughter of Sitlow Centurion. Out of a homebred ewe by Flodden Braveheart, this gimmer stood first as a ewe lamb at the Border Club Show last year and second as a gimmer this year. Buyer was E Wilkie, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire.

And at 1500gns was yet another gimmer, a single-born ewe by Conveth Kolosson out of a dam by Flodden Braveheart going back to Glenisla Ivanhoe. This one was knocked down to M W Waycott, Ashburthon, Devon.

Leading trade in the older ewes at 1450gns was the homebred 2007 born ewe by Kings Romeo out of a homebred ewe by Glenho Morning Glory. Buyer here was Carnwath, South Lanarkshire-based J J Tooze.

Pick of the ram lambs was an embryo-bred lamb by the flock’s stock tup Rookery Reiver out of a homebred ewe by Pennan Playboy. This one sold at 1250gns to I Spedding, Bishop Aukland, County Durham.
