Fresh calved cows top 1880gns at Ross-on-Wye

A bid of 1880gns topped proceedings at the July collective sale of dairy cattle at Ross-on-Wye Market, Herefordshire.

Taking top spot was a freshly calved Holstein Friesian heifer from Jeff Morgan, Tewkesbury. This one sold to Andrew Alford, Abergavenny.

Next in the money was a Comestar Outside sired in-cal heifer fro RGSR Farms, Raglan, which sold for 1620gns to A Knowles, Malvern.

Just short of this money were three lots forward from Ben Rich, Gloucester. These commercial Holstein Friesian in-calf heifers sold to 1600gns, 1550gns and 1500gns. Purchasing both the top prices was R J Fletcher and Son, Hereford.

It was the turn of the Jerseys to be next in the money with a Jersey cross calved heifer from Adrian Ractliffe, Gloucester selling for 1100gns. Montbeliarde cross calved heifers sold to 1050gns three times, all purchased by F M Ossig and Son, Broseley, Shropshire.

RGSR Farms were again in the money securing the top price for a Holstein Frisian maiden heifer. The 900gns Hollysprings Oka Mallow was purchased by M J and S C Pugh, Hereford. The same purchaser also paid 900gns for a Dutch bred red and white Holstien Frisian maiden heifer.
