Galloway bull leads Carlisle trade at 1500gns

A strong entry of Galloway cattle, which included the dispersal of the Skitby herd, saw trade top at 1500gns for bulls and 1400gns for females at Carlisle last Friday.


Sale leader and champion male was Barlaes Godfather from Kirkudbrightshire-based R and M Fergusson. By New Era of Gall-Way, out of Barlaes Katie 32, he sold to Kilnstown Farm, Carlisle.



 At 1400gns J F Irving and Son, Selkirk, sold the Penninghame Major son, Mountbenger Admiral for 1400gns to Walter Henderson, Lockerbie.


The leading female bid came from the dispersal of the late G Forrester’s Skitby herd. The 2002 born Tansy 29 of Skitby, by Bingo of Kilnstown, sold for 1400gns to T R and K M Wallace, Hexham. The same buyers also took home Bridget 56 of Skitby, again by the same sire at 1050gns.


Champion female from the shown section was Barlaes Grace 66 from the Fergusson family. Homebred on both sides, she sold for 1000gns to J McCurdy, Ballymena, Co Antrim.


Averages 4 bulls £1220.63; 15 bulling and maiden heifers £852.60. Dispersal 9 cows £612.50; 15 bulling and maiden heifers £613.20; 11 cows in calf £752.18 (Harrison and Hetherington).
