Gisburn Holsteins sell to £2600
A sale of pedigree Holstein cattle, held in conjunction with the weekly offering of commercial dairy cows, produced a top price of £2600 at Gisburn Auction Mart, Lancashire last week.
From the long established Garsby herd owned by the Cornthwaite family at Claughton-on-Brock, near Garstang, Garsby Chapter Irene 3 was sold fresh to top the trade. By Calbrett Chapter she goes to C Middleton, Whalley, Lancashire.
At £2280 the calved heifer Copdon Talent Nora 80 from G Donkin, Blackburn sold to J R Dodgson, who also gave £2000 for a Crackholme Comestar Paymaster calved heifer from the same vendor.
A £2100 call from Alan Outram, Bury was good enough to claim the Weeton Jackson freshly calved heifer Affetside Ella 65 from S and C Thompson, Longridge, Preston. Mr Outram also paid £2040 for another by Jackson form the same home.
Ingleview entries from Robert and Elaine Butterfield’s herd at Bentham, Lancaster met with the usual support. Their most expensive was Ingleview James Heidi, a Shoremar James calved heifer taken by G T Blezard, Ribchester at £2020.
Hellifield, Skipton vendor Gordon Beresford realised £2260 for a Maco Scotty calved heifer from his Tripleblue herd bought by C Middleton while an in-calf heifer due in June and consigned from the Walverdene herd of P K Smith and Sons, Burnley, made £1900 to S R Shuttleworth, West Marton, Skipton (Richard Turner and Son).
