Great Yorkshire sheep interbreed to Rouge

Great Yorkshire Show sheep interbeed honours went to the Rouge champion, a two shear ewe from Percy Tait’s Knighton flock. This one, Knighton Harriet is by Knighton Boycey and out of a homebred dam from the 60-ewe flock Mr Tait runs at home. She has previously been breed champion at the Royal Highland and Staffordshire and Shropshire shows this summer and now heads to the Royal Welsh next week. 1272011 GYS Sheep Overall.JPGThis was Mr Tait’s second interbreed win having previously collected the top prize with a Bleu Du Maine.

Reserve overall was the North Country Cheviot champion from Roderick Runciman. This shearling ewe is by Synton Bullseye and out of a homebred dam from 900-ewe Allenshaws flock at home in the Borders. The ewe, Allenshaws Pam was on her second outing, having picked up the breed and reserve interbreed titles at the Royal Highland Show last month.1272011 GYS Sheep Res.JPG

The Rouge had picked up the interbreed shortwool female championship prior to taking the overall title, while the North Country had been interbreed female hill champion.

Reserve in the shortwool females was the Bleu Du Maine female champion, an aged ewe from T S Goldie. Reserve hill female champion was Peter Turnbull’s Blackface shearling ewe.

In the Longwool interbreed the male champion was the Teeswater ram from G A Horner, with the Lincoln Longwool shearling ram from L M Fairbrun standing reserve. Hill male champion was the Swaledale tup from G A and D A Slack, with Hebridean ram from A C Skinner reserve.

Then in the Shortwool and Lowland male championship the winner was the Southdown shearling ram from the Glaves family, with the Bleu Du Maine from J W Stables standing reserve.

Longwool female champoion was the Wensleydale shearling ewe from S M Prescott and reserve was the Leicester Longwool shearling ewe from Chris Mudd.

Taking the Terminal Sire male championship was the Charollais ram from S C Hodgson, with David Thornley’s Beltex shearling ram reserve. And in the Terminal Sire female championship the winner was the Charollais shearling ewe from Geoff Watson and Carol Grain, with the Suffolk shearling ewe from Lilburn Estate reserve.

And the final section championship was the commercial female championship which went to Ron and Fran Wilson with their Mule, while resreve was the halfbred winner from Martin and Val Brown.
