Great Yorkshire Show 2012: British Lop sow takes championship

TS 1172012 GYS Pig Champ.JPGIn the pig rings, the title of overall supreme pig champion was awarded to a British Lop sow from Guy and Melany Kiddy, Gamlingay, Bedfordshire.

The January 2012 born Balsham Sunshine 40 is homebred, and sired by Greenway Charles.  The Kiddy family have been coming to the Great Yorkshire Show for nearly 20 years and last won the supreme pigchampionship in 2005.
The title of reserve was awarded to a Large White boar from Ron Fieldhouse, Tadcaster, North Yorkshire.
December 2011 born Calcaria Rope is homebred, and sired by Seaborough Rope.  Today’s title is the first time the Fieldhouses have won more than a breed class.
Judge Mrs Frances Slade from Banbury, Oxon, said:  “I just felt the champion was a really smart pig with a great future in breeding.  The reserve took my eye and he has a great future at the stud.”
