Great Yorkshire Show 2012: Holstein scoops championship

TS 1072012 GYS Holstein Champ.JPGThe title of overall dairy supreme champion was awarded to a third calver Holstein cow from Messrs R & E Butterfield, Linghaw Farm, Lancashire.

Ards Duplex O Ruth was bred by Messrs Paton in Northern Ireland, and bought by the Butterfields as a baby calf in 2007.  She was sired by Mesland Duplex and gave more than 13,000 litres during her first lactation.
An EX93 classified cow, Ruth calved in November and is currently giving 56kg.  Today’s win follows on from taking the championship title at the Cumberland Show earlier this year.

Meanwhile, judge Jeff Daw from Swindon, Wiltshire, awarded his champion title to a Dairy Shorthorn cow from I R G Collins & Partners, Church Farm, Shipley.
October 2008 born Churchroyd Bronte Wildeyes 31 was bred by the exhibitor.  She is by Stadel and calved on 27 June.  During her first lactaction she gave 9,365kg and today’s win follows on from taking the heifer breed champion title and reserve heifer interbreed at this fixture last year.
