Harry Emslie breaks Thainstone breeding record at £6000

Fresh from success at Saturday’s Limousin sale at Carlisle, Mintlaw, Peterhead-based Harry Emslie has been enjoying the fruits of his labour once more at Thainstone where he smashed the centre’s record price for a heifer with calf at foot at £6000.

His record breaker was a Charolais cross heifer (it looks more like a Simmental from the photo) with a September-born ET-bred Limousin bull calf at foot. The calf is by Robert Graham’s French bred stock bull Samy and out of Pennys Tess, Mr Emslie’s 5000gns purchase and one of the herd’s most successful cows to date. Buying this one was TT Farming, Yorkshire.

Champion on the day was an April 2006-born Limousin cross heifer with a March born Limousin sired bull calf at foot from Angus Greenlaw, Huntly which sold for £2700 to O Llyr, Tyn-Y-Wern, North Wales.

Reserve champion was another Limousin cross this time from Keith Stewart and Sons, Greenhaugh. This one had a February-born Limousin cross calf at foot and made £3100.
