Jones’ take joint top price at Welsh Black sale

It was a day for the Jones’ at last weeks Welsh Black Cattle Society summer show and sale, Llandovery Market, which saw prices topping at 3500gns for the champion and reserve champion bulls.

 

First to hit the day’s top price was the champion, Cwmcae Addewid 3rd, a 25 month old from the retiring society president Trefor Jones, Ceredigion. The home bred bull, sired by Neuadd Addewid 63rd and out of Cwmcae Eirliw 97th sold to Rhodri Traherne, Coedarhydyglyn, Cardiff.

 

lot 10.jpg At the same money was Waundderw Ben from Geoff Jones, Builth Wells which sold to Allan Price, Llangadog, Carmarthenshire. This homebred bull was sired by Brysgaga Erddyn 42nd and out of Dolhelfa Sonia.

 

 

 

FW Welsh Black Show & Sale 12.jpg Next in the money at 2400gns was the third prize bull from the pre-sale show Coedllys Medwyn. Sired by Gorse James and out of Coedllys Avril 2nd this 25 month old bull which was consigned by Mr and Mrs William Davies, Aberystwyth sold to Phillip Heard, Okehampton, Devon.

 

 The highest price female of the day was the reserve champion Castell Fanny 166th, sired by Peiran Pedro and out of Castell Fanny 120th. Consigned by Messrs G and J Davies, Llandeilo this home-bred 2.5 year old heifer sold for 1600gns to Messrs G C Hardcore, Newport.

 

And it was an in calf heifer Castell Fanny 171st from Messrs G and J Davies, Maes-Y-Castell that sold for 1250gns to Messrs M J Phillip, Llandiloes, Powys. The Davies family also sold another in calf heifer, castell Seren 275th for 1100gns to Eifion Jones, Ffynonlwyd.  

Also at 1250gns was the reserve champion maiden heifer Cennen Lil 41st, by Cerdin Arwel and out of Cennen Lil 36th . Bred and sold by J R and D H Francis, Llangadog, Carmarthenshire the 25 month old heifer was bought by Allan Price, Gwynfe.

  

At 1200gns was Lluest Eira, a well bred heifer from Mr Emrys Jones, Machynlleth, Powys bought by Huw Evans, Llanwrda, Carmarthenshire.

 

Another from the Francis’ and also a first prize winner in her class Cennen Doli 16th sold for 1100gns. Sired by Cerdin Arwel and out of Cennen Doli 14th the heifer was bought by Mr and Mrs Paul and Annwyn Beswick, Carmarthenshire.

 

At the same money was the champion maiden heifer Gwarcwym Ester 18th from D Huw Jones, Ceredigion and to pre-sale judge Gerald Thomas, Holyhead, Anglesey.#
