Kerry Hill ram makes 1,900gns at official sale

Strong demand for quality sheep at the 115th annual sale of registered Kerry Hill sheep at Ludlow (5 Sept), saw the Fronarth flock of SA Jones, Frongoy, take the day’s top call of 1,900gns with a yearling ram.

Buyer was RM Fishwick of Shap.

Selling for 1,000gns was yearling ewe and the day’s champion from the Owens family, Shobdon. Buyer was Daylesford Organic Farm, Moreton in the Marsh.

A ram lamb from the same stable took the reserve and sold for 700 guineas to Mr S Evans, Llandrinio.

The averages for yearling ewes, yearling rams and ram lambs were all well ahead on the comparable figures for 2014, with a respectable clearance rate of 80%.

An entry of good quality sheep from the Reidstow flock of James McClintock, Northern Ireland, attracted much interest with three yearling ewes selling to a joint top price of 1000gns and averaging 573 guineas. Two yearling rams from the same flock sold to a top of 550gns and averaged 475gns.

A run of eight yearling ewes from LS Steen, Lockerbie sold to a top of 380gns and averaged 325gns.
