Lamb trade firmer on the week at Kirkby Stephen

An entry of 2,281 sheep was forward at Kirkby Stephen this week, consisting of 1,898 prime lambs and 383 cast ewes and rams.

Topping at 207.30p/kg was a Beltex x lamb from James Birkbeck, Decklyn and purchased by Vivers Scotlamb.

Topping at £90 was a Beltex x lamb from Messrs Batty, Dry Evers and was purchased by Steadman’s Butchers, Kirkby Stephen.

Most classes of lambs were firmer on the week with heavy lambs being particularly in stronger demand.

Middleton in Teesdale

At the Annual Prize Show and Sale of 931 Suckled Calves at Middleton in Teesdale Mart, trade was up on the year.

The sale average of £754.84 was an increase from last year of £5.45. Bullocks averaged £794.25 (+£3.31) and heifers averaged ££713.20 (+£6.21)
