Leek Auction Mart top at £2800 at jubilee sale

A packed ringside greeted Leek Auction Market this week for its 50 year jubilee celebrations.

The top price from the dairy sale saw a heifer from Bill Nadin’s Sterndale herd take the top price at £2800. By Ladino Park Talent, she boasts six successive generations of VG/Ex and goes back to the EX97 brood cow Shadow Cliff RA Gina. She knocked down to the pre-sale judge Phillip Smith.

 Second in the heifer class and reserve overall champion was Tameside Emblem 18 from Robert Gladsby, Yarlet. By Royalne Jordan, her dam has given six lactations up to 9800kg. She sold for £2460 to Robert Blackhouse, Leigh.

Close behind at £2400 was a Drake daughter Leaventhorpe Drake Topsy from john Allen, Tutbury. She sold giving 36kg/day to Mr Hulme, Basford, who also bought another from Mr Allen and £2200.

Cows peaked at £2090 for a second calver from Messrs Fernyhough, Kidsgrove. By Stardale Roberto, she sold having given 8262kg as a heifer to Mr Blackhouse. Yearling heifers from Robert Hayes’ Timberlane herd peaked at £825 for a Riverdane Eagle daughter.
