Leyburn spring spectacular tops at £4,200

The Leyburn Spring Spectacular for Show Potential Cattle last weeked saw a top call of £4,200 for the steer and reserve overall champion put forward by John Smith-Jackson, Haltwhistle.

This Limousin by Shire Apollo sold to noted show man and last year’s heifer judge Tecwyn Jones, Conway.

The overall champion – a Limousin Heifer from Tom and John Raw of Lealholme, Whitby, met some competitive bidding, but was eventually secured by Anne Turnbull from Coxwold for £3,300.

 

Other best prices on the day were from Clive Dent and Family, Barnard Castle, with a Limousin heifer at £2,350, Tom and John Raw’s Limousin heifer at £2,200 and Josh Wainwright, Bishop Wilton, with their purebred Limousin heifer also making £2,200.

 

Claiming the special prize sponsored by the British Blue Cattle Society for the champion British Blue was Will and Gillian Sedgley’s steer which went on to sell for £1,500 to George Anderson, Co Durham on behalf of Louise Todd, Lincolnshire. The reserve champion steer – a Limousin put forward by W and G Sedgley – went for £1,380.
