Limousin cow and calf makes 9800gns at Borderway

Kelso breeder John Logan’s Homebyres Dinuette, a 2008-bred daughter of Homebyres Vanhee, made 6,200gns and her heifer calf by Wilodge Tonka went on to make 3,600gns, at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s summer female sale at Borderway Mart.


The outfit was bought by James Tennant Ltd, Bridlington, Humberside, who also gave a combined price of 9,300gns for Homebyres Effi and her heifer calf by Haltcliffe Eubank. Effi made 4,800gns and the calf 4,500gns.

Local vendors E and E Norman sold Norman Halo – a spring 2012-bred heifer by Claragh Franco – at 8,800gns. She stays in Cumbria with J Mulholland, Carlisle.

Homebyres Ellie, a 2009-bred Vanhee daughter, made 5,000gns to Robert Neill and Partners, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, while her bull calf by Eubank made 2,800gns to F and S Edmondson, Ulverston, Cumbria.

Scottish bidder J Teague, Balerno gave 7,500gns for the April 2012-bred heifer Norman Hilary – a Franco daughter.

Meanwhile M Jack, Glenrothes, Fife paid 6,200gns for Fifeshire breeder Robert Aitken’s Lourie Finessa who is a 2010-bred daughter of Rocky.

Homebyres Elki, a 2009-bred cow by Homebyres Consort, made 4,000gns to C Higgs, Montgomery, Powys while her heifer calf by Homebyres Arnott made 1,800gns to H Annett and Son, Morpeth, Northumberland. Mr Teague was in again at 5,600gns to claim Homebyres Eileen – a 2009-bred Arnott daughter.

Averages: Lourie – five cows served and/or suckling £3853.60. Fieldson – seven cows served and/or suckling £2535. Homebyres – 10 cows served and/or suckling £6,384 and two maiden heifers £2572.50.

Glenburn – five cows served and/or suckling £1596. Norman -16 maiden heifers £3701. Ringway – five maiden heifers £1722. Normande 11 maiden heifers £1899. Siddall – seven maiden heifers £1905.
