Limousin females hit 2700gns at Carlisle

A strong turnout of unhaltered females – and a quality draft of heifers from the Chatsworth herd – produced a lively trade at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s autumn female sale at Borderway Mart where prices reached 2700gns for a maiden heifer by Proctors Trooper.

The leading bid came for Chatsworth Camilla – part of the consignment from the Chatsworth Settlement Trust’s herd brought to Carlisle by farm manager Ian Turner from its home on the Chatsworth Estate, Bakewell.

The Sympa son Haltcliffe Valiant was the sire of Chatsworth Cello that realised 2600gns to D Walker, Egremont, Cumbria. Also out of a Hartside Nelson dam, Cello has a Beef Value of +28.

Best of the herd’s in-calf heifers was Chatsworth Bluebell taken at 2500gns by Breconside Farming, Moffat, Dumfriesshire. By the Kype Orkney son Bolsterstone Superior and out of a Loosebeare Jupiter dam, she has a Beef Value of +30 and was in-calf to Mynach Buster.

Another Trooper daughter – Chatsworth Blondie – made 2400gns to A and R Maxwell, Driffield, east Yorkshire. In-calf to the Mynach sire, she has a Beef Value of +33.

Andrew Ewing from Annan, Dumfriesshire gave most in the collective section paying 2400gns for Bowers Rosetta. This 2000-bred cow by Greensons Gigolo is out of a Broadmeadows Cannon dam and was sold suckling a July-born heifer calf by Pacha.

An undisclosed buyer gave 2200gns for Cumbria breeders Messrs Jackson’s 2003-bred cow Cockleshell

Usabella while Jane Seagrave was in again at 2050gns to secure Laverock Chic – a Navarin sired maiden heifer from W Richardson and Sons, Kendal.

Staying in Cumbria with buyers W and H Watson, Brampton was Central Una, a Ludo-sired first-calf heifer from A and M Gray’s herd at Torrance, near Glasgow. She had a July-born bull calf at foot by Heros.
