Limousins dominate championship

The overall commercial championship in the cattle classes has just been awarded to keith, Mark and Shaun Harryman’s Limousin cross heifer Black Beauty. Homebred and sired by the French bull Snoopy out of a Limousin cross dam, this is the first time Beauty has been shown and will next head to the English Winter Fair at Bingley Hall next month.

The Harryman family run 100 pedigree cattle and buy in 60 commercial heifers each year to sell with calves at foot back here in Carlisle. Overall it’s been a pretty good day for the family who have picked up two red tickets, two thirds and two fourths.

Standing reserve and following Beauty through in the heifer section was Alister and Liz Vance’s Limousin cross heifer Devine Diva. Bred by the Scott family of Thirlwall Castle and bought here in Carlisle, diva will next head to the Royal Highland Winter Fair and possibly Smithfield.

Taking the male championship was Elfed Williams’ Limousin cross steer Stop & Stare, bred by the Powell family and shown by Neil Lloyd. Taking the reserve male ticket was the second prize steer to Stop & Stare, Honky Tonk (another Limousin cross steer) from the Rice Family.
