Lincolnshire Show: Interbreed results

Taking the top spot in the dairy interbreed championships was the Holstein cow Harwick Shottle J Mary.

This one is by Picston Shottle and out of Marsbar Jordan Mary. Judge P Stevenson, Liverton, Saltburn, praised Mary for her style, wonderfully attached udder and cleaness through the bone.

As the first time Hardwick Holsteins, Sandy Hill Farm, Burton Rossett, has ever shown, their success will no doubt mean they will be making an appearance at forthcoming shows, with the Dairy Event and Livestock Show next on the agenda.

In reserve was Pavenham Iben, a Jersey entry from Pavenham Jerseys, Chapel Farm, Boston. This cow is by Gilpart Belles Connection and out of Pavenham Iben.

In the beef ring, Smiths of Bloxham, Newlands Farm, Banbury, continued their impressive winning streak with their Limousin, Ironside Dumandy from their herd of 500 pedigree Lims.

This Wilodge Vantastic daughter has secured breed champion for the last five times she has been show and interbreed champion at Newark Show. The home-bred heifer will be heading to the Norfolk and Welsh Shows next.

A British Blonde with bull calf at foot took the reserve. Burghwallis Cadbury from W and M Seels, Home Farm, Burghwallis, is by Brownhill Unite and out of Elmhurst Liquorice. She will be making an appearance at the Great Yorkshire Show.

A shearling Suffolk ram from Liz Needham, Forge Cottage, Grantham walked away with the title of interbreed sheep champion. He was bought as a stock ram for the Needham‘s flock of 30 Suffolks last September and was awarded champion Suffolk at Newark and Rutland Shows earlier in the year.

Judge David Thornalley, Alford, said the ram had ‘good length and top line and showed himself the best when let go.’

However, Mr Thornalley was unable to decide an outright reserve champion, awarding joint reserve to a Texel ewe from H S Ashley, Laburnam Lodge, Boston and a Lincoln Longwool ram from M D and J Coney, Belton Grange, Grantham.

Pig interbreed champion was given to a Hampshire, homebred gilt from Sue Hutson, Hutson and Son, Grimsby. Burma Anna 35 is by Kilcot Peterbilt and out of Burma Anna 29.

Judge Andrew Roinson, Derby, chose his champion because of the gilt’s ‘natural look of quality’.

In reserve was the Large Black sow, Colony Freiston Queen from H M P North sea Camp, Boston. This one is by Ellowby Defender and out of Colony Fresiton Queen. She had her last litter in January.
