Livestock 2012 – Sailsbury secures Guernsey Championship
By Simon Wragg
Wellingham Lillywhite 35, the Guernsey Cow in Milk ‘picked out of a dark barn is Sussex’ has taken the breed’s Championship title for owner Jason Salisbury of Suffolk Farmhouse Cheeses of Ipswich. “We have just 35 in milk and sell locally to wholesales and retailers but are wanting to expand,” he told Fwi.
Giving 35 litres/day she’s ideal for the cheese-maker, he added. She was Reserve Breed Champion as a dry cow at this year’s Suffolk Show and impressed judge David Trotter in the NEC showring for her style and longeveity.
Into Reserve at Livestock 2012 went I & D Crouch & R Norman’s heifer in milk Blacknor Cracker Bangor Margaret. Honourable Mention went to I & D Crouch’s cow in milk Blacknor Cracker CK Eva
