Carlisle cash rolls in for Limousins
THE CASH kept rolling in for Limousins at the breed society’s recent sale of unhaltered cattle at Borderway Mart, Carlisle. Bidding twice reached 3200gns for entries from the Windyhill herd, which dominated the top end of the trade.
First at 3200gns was Windyhill Rustic, consigned by local breeder Mrs M Brown. This heifer is by a home-bred son of Newclose Douglas and has full French breeding, including Favori, on both sides of her pedigree.
She was offered with her April-born heifer calf at foot by Ardbrack Seekingthegold and stays in Cumbria with Henry Ridley at Hesket Newmarket.
Mr Ridley was in again to claim another from the same herd at 2000gns. Windyhill Shiraz is by Redstone Lancia and out of a Glebedale sired dam. She was suckling a heifer calf by the Ardbrack bull.
Herdmate Windyhill Sara, also by Lancia, shared the top price of 3200gns. She was bought by J Baird, Co Armagh, and was also suckling a spring-born heifer calf by the Ardbrack sire. Windyhill Roux and her heifer calf – one of 26 outfits from this herd – realised 2500gns to J and B Smith, High Balantyre, Glasgow.
Among the other leading bids was 2100gns from an undisclosed buyer for a Lancia-sired heifer and calf from Windyhill while R and J Milroy, Girvan, Ayrshire, paid 2000gns for Windyhill Rousse. This heifer is out of a daughter of Hallingbury Rustic.
Averages: 69 cows and heifers 1249 and 20 bulling and maiden heifers 963. (Harrison and Hetherington).
