Charolais bull tops trade at 2800gns in Devon
A bull from the Little Bovey herd of Mr and Mrs Henry Vooght topped the trade at 2800gns at the South West Charolais Association”s spring fixture at Holsworthy, Devon.
Little Bovey Utrecht, whose Signet recorded figures put him in the breed’s top 10%, is by the top producer Dingle Hofmeister and out of a Glenleary Mecca-sired cow. He stood champion under judge Steve Nesbitt from Co Durham and was bought by WT Shute, Canworthy Water, Cornwall.
Mike Yeandle brought a good string from Peter Old”s Moynton herd at Dorchester and earned the day”s second highest price of 2600gns with Moynton Uranium.
Bred from some of this herd”s most successful female lines, he is by the French sire PTI Prince and has an EBV of 29, a muscle score of 13 and 400-day weight of 630kg.
His dam, by the legendary Tattenhall Impeccable, is full sister to Moynton Freesia who was supreme champion at the Royal Cornwall Show for three consecutive years. Uranium heads for Exmoor with J Pugsley.
Mr Yeandle said: “We”ve some very good young bulls by PTI Prince. He”s giving us tremendous shape and excellent growth.”
Taunton breeder D Barker, who runs the Ashbrittle herd, collected the reserve championship with another well-bred young bull that made 1800gns to Mr Daniel of Launceston.
The 13-month-old Ashbrittle Voyager is by the 16,000gns Derryharney Outstanding and out of a cow by Bowerhouses Topper. He weighed 533kg at 300 days.
