Bulk storage scheme offered for molasses feed trial

Farmers can take advantage of a free bulk tank storage scheme to trial the effects of feeding molasses.

The scheme, re-introduced by molasses supplier, ED and F Man, provides a fully equipped storage tank on-farm for a two month trial period.

During this time, the beneficial effects of using molassess/liquid feed products can be assessed, says ED and F Man’s Jim Howie. “Typically these include increased dry matter intakes, reduced sorting and improved rumen function.”

After the trial period, farmers can purchase the tank outright or spread payment using the company’s interest free finance scheme. “In the unlikely event of seeing no benefits, the tank can be returned at no cost, except that of the product use.”

“Steel prices have come down and a typical 12t storage tank costs about ÂŁ1700, instead of ÂŁ2000 as it did two years ago, so now is a good time to invest in one.

“These high level tanks are convenient to use and allow more cost-effective bulk purchases to be made.”

With the variability of sugar levels in forages and rising protein prices, including liquid products in rations can cost-effectively balance energy and protein supplies, improve rumen function and boos animal performance, he says.
