Lleyns hit 2100gns at Penywern reduction


The major reduction sale of Dai and Cynthia Morris’ Penywern flock at Worcester market produced a top price of 2100gns for a two-year-old daughter of Ballylinney Action Man and carrying twins to Bronalt Alwyn. The ewe’s dam had also bred stud rams to 15,000gns and been a prolific prize winner in the show ring. Buyers were D N Bennett and Son, Meiford, Powys.  Two full ET sisters sold to 2000gns and 1450gns also sold to D N Bennett and Son.


Another two-year-old ewe by Action Man that stood third at the Royal Welsh Show realised 1400gns to Mrs C Lewis, Caersws, Powys.


Shearling ewes met a very keen demand topping at 1400gns for another Action Man daughter scanned with twins to Bronalt Alwyn. Buyer was Lionel Organ.


The Lleyn Sheep Society’s sale, held alongside the Penywern reduction, saw trade reach 560gns for a shearling ewe carrying twins. She was consigned by North Wales breeder Wynne Davies and goes to H Hunt, Honiton, Devon.


Messrs Bennett and Son’s offering sold well to a top of 500gns for a shearling ewe carrying twins to the 5500gns tup Lluest High Five. She goes to S J Smith, Welshpool, Powys.


Averages: Penywern (all in-lamb) – 10 four-year ewes £353; five three-year ewes £315; 12 two-year ewes £903 and 12 yearling ewes £586. Society sale – one senior in-lamb ewe £420 and eight yearling in-lamb ewes £400.
