Miltonmains Holsteins reach 2050gns
A selective trade was evident at last week’s dispersal of the Miltonmains herd of Holsteins for Messrs Ackerley, Brampton.
Selling for the day’s best price of 2050gns was Benlaw Aaron Wendy 25, a December 2006-born daughter of Dixie-Lee Aaron out of a dam by Maughlin Storm. Having given 7744 litres in her first she sold to Newhouse Farms, Dumfries.
Then making 1920gns was Miltonmains Phil Freedom, an Ansa Phil daughter out of Miltonmains Mr Freeman, a Mouldyhills Rudolph daughter. Sold having calved in August and having given 715 litres in the first 24 days of her first, this August 2008-born heifer also sold to Newhouse Farms.
Then at 1800gns was Miltonmains Phil Bluebell 2, another by Ansa Phil. Out of a dam by Wormanby Lotto, this one sold having calved in August and given 372 litres in 19 days. Buyer of this one was H and E M Hunter and Son, Penrith.
And selling at 1700gns was Miltonmains Phil Isabel 3, a May 2008-born Ansa Phil daughter. Out of another Wormanby Lotto daughter she was bought by Newhouse Farms.
Averages; 99 cows in milk £919.55, 22 heifers in milk £974.59, 37 bulling and maiden heifers £633.41, 17 heifer calves £431.12 (Harrison and Hetherington).
