Monyruy Holstein dispersal sale tops 3,100gns

The dispersal sale of Colin and Bruce Mair’s Aberdeenshire-based Monyruy herd saw a top price of 3,100gns achieved.

The sale consisting of 131 cows and heifers, either in-milk or in-calf, took place on Wednesday last week (8 August) at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.  And out of the animals going under the hammer, many were averaging more than 40kg with many classified in the top grades.
The top price of 3,100gns was paid for Monruy Igniter Duchess VG57 – a duaghter of Summershade Igniter from an impressive line of the famous Powis Duchess family.  She was a young cow in her second, and sold back in-calf for the New Year to Ballycairn Tiergan..  She joins the herd of Messrs Kellett & Son of White House Farm, Hexham.
The second highest price, at 2,600gns, was achieved for Monyruy Phil Gina VG25.  This two year old sired by Dalbytop Phil, calved back in January and is due again in January to Woodmarsh Asterix.  During her last test she was recording giving 36kg and was bread from a 14,000kg dam.  She goes to Seymour Farms of Leegate, Cumbria.
Thereafter, selling for 2,200gns was Monyruy Dictator Ruby VG87; sired by Overside Dictator, this was calved back in February and was bred back to Ballycairn Tiergan.  She was snapped up by Messrs D F Forsyth of Baltier Farm, Newton Stewart.
Meanwhile, the highest yielding heifers in the herd and one of the highest yielding heifers to ever sell at Borderway Mart was Monyruy Foreman Dora G75, giving 49kg.  This one is by Berryholme Foremand and out of a VG87 dam sired by Niscot BW Jack.  She was purchased for 2,150gns by N & K Forshaw of Meadowside, Preston.
A further sale is planned for October, consisting of freshly calved cows and heifers from the Mair’s herd.
