National Dairy Show at Livestock 2014, NEC – dairy breed champions announced
A real sense of interest surrounded the individual dairy breed championships here at Livestock 2014 as one breed after another came before a packed ringside for the final decisions.
In no particular order:
Ayrshire: Breed Champion has been awarded to eight calver Sandyford Clover 10 from ET Tomlinson having been praised for her ‘look at me’ character by the judge. Reserve Champion was awarded to Hunnington Fragrance 55 from C & L Window praised for its symmetry.
British Friesian: Breed Champion went to Oakalby Celcius Violet 13 from ES Burroughs & Son. Reserve Champion went the family’s Oakalby rebel Buttercup 118 making it a double victory at this year’s event.
Brown Swiss: Breed Champion has been awarded to the third calver Soulseat Jublend Beatrice from R & S McColm. Reserve Champion was awarded to Kedar TD Reia from JM Lochhead.
Guernsey: Breed Champion went to the Class 4 winning cow Ermie and Gertie Dorcas from Hinton Farms. Reserve Champion went to Wiltown Claudia from the same exhibitor.
Holstein: Breed Champion went to the third calver Neatishall decker Rosina from NJ & LC Sercombe. Reserve Champion went to home bred Castellhyfryd Spirte Rosina from SP & SR Davies.
Jersey: Breed Champion went to Bluegrass Excitations Cyclamen from Mr & Mrs BA Daw. Reserve Champion went to Future Dreams Excitations Blossom from the Partnership of the same name.
That concludes the dairy competitions for Wednesday with the dairy interbreed taking place in the NEC ring in Hall 18 on Thursday morning. Beef classes have now begun after the dairy team – led by senior steward Charles Reader – neatly concluded today’s classes.
