Limousin heifer takes Abergavenny primestock title

Overall champion at last week’s Abergavenny Christmas Primestock show and sale

was awarded to a Limousin heifer shown by Messrs. A.E. & M.E. Pritchard, Olchon Mill, Longtown, weighing 580kg.  She was purchased at 265p/kg (£1,557) by Mr Greg Willis, a butcher from Cwmbran.

The Reserve Champion trophy was awarded to Messrs. E.G. & L.M. Cadogan, Lower Cwmcayo Farm, Usk, for their Limousin Steer which weighed in at 555kg and was also purchased by Mr Willis at 262p/kg (£1,454).  The overall average for the cattle on show was nearly £1250 apiece.

The sheep classes were won by Mr. Chris Ball, Upper Cwm, Llantilio Crossenny, who took both Champion and Reserve Champion trophies with his Texel-cross entries. Weighing 40.5kg, the champions sold for £200 (493.8p/kg) to Mr. Robert Clode from Cripple Creek Inn, Raglan. The reserve champions sold for £100 (263.1p/kg) to Messrs. N.S. James & Son, Butchers, Raglan.
