Limousin heifer takes Abergavenny primestock title

Overall champion at last week’s Abergavenny Christmas Primestock show and sale

was awarded to a Limousin heifer shown by Messrs. A.E. & M.E. Pritchard, Olchon Mill, Longtown, weighing 580kg.  She was purchased at 265p/kg (ÂŁ1,557) by Mr Greg Willis, a butcher from Cwmbran.

 

The Reserve Champion trophy was awarded to Messrs. E.G. & L.M. Cadogan, Lower Cwmcayo Farm, Usk, for their Limousin Steer which weighed in at 555kg and was also purchased by Mr Willis at 262p/kg (ÂŁ1,454).  The overall average for the cattle on show was nearly ÂŁ1250 apiece.

 

The sheep classes were won by Mr. Chris Ball, Upper Cwm, Llantilio Crossenny, who took both Champion and Reserve Champion trophies with his Texel-cross entries. Weighing 40.5kg, the champions sold for ÂŁ200 (493.8p/kg) to Mr. Robert Clode from Cripple Creek Inn, Raglan. The reserve champions sold for ÂŁ100 (263.1p/kg) to Messrs. N.S. James & Son, Butchers, Raglan.
