Pendle Australia stars at Border Belgian Blue Club sale
One of the summer show season’s most successful young bulls topped the trade at the Border Belgian Blue Club’s sale at Carlisle at 6000gns.
Consigned from Northern Ireland breeder Dermot Small’s Strathearn herd, the 2005-bred Pendle Australia has won a fistful of awards with David and Mary Cormack, who have shown him throughout the show season from their base at Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
Australia is by Blue Stone Union Jack and out of a Philipper De Remichampagne dam. He stood junior male champion at the Royal and Royal Highland shows. Buyer was J Lewis & Son of Presteigne, Powys.
Judge Danny Wyllie gave the championship to the imported bull Tympan Du Pont De Messe, from the Seygorry herd of Co Londonderry breeder Sam Milliken – one of many Northern Ireland breeders to earn high prices. Mr Milliken’s champion is by Rocky Du Pont De Messe and made 5800gns to R McKelvey of Lockerbie.
Worcestershire breeders Ian and Jim Phillips took 5800gns for Brockleton Blues Alfred, a county show winner by Ridge Dean Teddy. Buyer was S H Troughton & Co, Oban.
A string of 5000gns bulls included the black-and-white Lukeroyal Albert from Antrim-based vendors Mel and Diane Lucas and claimed by A Jones, Swansea. A show winner this season, he is by Raciste Du Pachis a la Motte and stood reserve champion.
Co Down breeder Basil Dougherty sold Greenfield Winter (by Ingenieux Du Stordeur) at 5000gns to the Firm of H Macdonald, Grantown on Spey, while J M Morrison & Son, Co Antrim, earned 5000gns for Chatham Wesley, a Lenborough Oliver son, taken by E & W Griffiths, Presteigne, Powys.
A fourth 5000gns call sent Danny and Jane Wyllie’s Tamhorn Amazon, a Dafydd D’Ochain son, to Orkney with A & D Clark.
An imported cow from the De Haute Somme herd consigned by Andrew Coppinger, Shropshire, topped the females at 4500gns and stood champion. By the successful sire Gypse De Haute Somme, she joins D A Williams’ herd at Shifnal,Shropshire.
