Poll/Horn Dorset sheep sell to 530gns at Worcester
Trade topped at 530gns at the Poll/Horn Dorset Sheep Society’s official show and sale at Worcester on the weekend (12 July).
Sale leader was the overall champion, a ram lamb from David Rossiter’s Devon-based Huish flock. Born September 2013, he is sired by Oliver Tree Prince P9 and is out of a dam by Sherborne Never Say Die N102. Buyer was J Potter, Faringdon, Oxon.
The reserve overall champion Wisley T544 from WL French, Launceston, Cornwall, made 500gns when selling to MJ Thomas and Co, Swansea, Glamorgan. Sired by
Manor Croft Layabout L340 this March 2013 shearling ram is out of Redhill F1 daughter.
Females
Topping female trade at 420gns was the first prize winning shearling ewe Sherborne T1687 from Richard and Robert Hole’s Dorset-based flock. By their homebred sire Sherborne Panache P127 she is out of a Downkillyoegs Napolean N43 dam. Buyer was Tim Pratt, Woodbridge, Suffolk.
A first-prize ewe lamb from the same home was knocked down to MJ Thomas and Co, Swansea, Glamorgan, for 380gns. Sired by Huish Starlight S3080 this one is out of a Poorton Kingcombe K17 dam.
David Rossiter took the day’s second highest female price of 410gns for his ewe lamb, due with twins to Granagh Nightrider. Buyer was D Beeby, Alderley, Cheshire.
Averages: 30 shearling ewes, £295.05; seven ewe lambs, £270; eight pens of ewe hoggets, £187.68; nine pens of ewe lambs, £150.85; four shearling rams, £420; four ram lambs, £401.62.
