MPs in the firing line
Being in the public eye can be a dangerous occupation, especially in you’re an MP.
The list of politicians who’ve been hit by eggs is a long one, including: Labour’s John Prescott, egged by a disgruntled northerner in 2008; the BNP’s Nick Griffin on his electoral debut in 2009; and prime minister David Cameron, targeted by students in Cornwall in 2010.
To that list we can now add current Labour leader Ed Miliband, pelted with eggs on a recent visit to a south London market for supposedly being too supportive of bankers.
Apart from the indignity, it seems that being egged could carry additional dangers. At least that’s the implication from the recent ban on shell eggs in the House of Commons’ canteen over MP’s fears that their omelettes could be contaminated with salmonella.
Perhaps in future, members of the public wishing to show their discontent with the country’s leaders should arm themselves with liquid egg from Holland – just to be on the safe side…..
