London’s finest to serve Blue Duck eggs
Watercress Lane duck eggs will now be served in some of London’s best restaurants.
As duck egg producers try to wrest the gourmet food markets from chicken eggs, more than 350 restaurants and gastro-pubs will be supplied duck eggs from the Norfolk producer by Secretts Direct, a fruit and vegetable supplier part-owned by Gregg Wallace from BBC1’s Masterchef.
Famous restaurants such as La Gavroche, Nobu, Corrigans and The Ivy will be use the eggs in a range of cooking.
“The restaurants we service demand the highest quality and these eggs fulfill that brief,” Secretts Direct co-owner Vernon Mascarenhas said.
“Over the past few years there has been a significant growth in interest from our restaurants and we will be stocking duck eggs all year round.”
All eggs used by the restaurants will be covered by the “Blue Duck” logo which denotes high standards of freshness, food safety and animal welfare.
The “Blue Duck” logo scheme was introduced by Watercress Lane earlier this year to give consumers a guarantee of quality for duck eggs but currently there are no plans to expand the scheme outside the company.
