Video: Happy Egg launches Nice Pecks calendar
Top fashion photographer Nathan Pask has completed an assignment with a difference, producing a pin-up calendar for the Happy Egg Co, featuring some of the nation’s best looking cockerels.
According to the company, over 100 cockerels auditioned for the “Nice Pecks” calendar shoot, which apparently has been “inspired by Hollywood’s heartthrobs”.
The calendars are being sent to all Happy Egg producers, “to give flocks up and down the country some added hen-tertainment”. Over 1,000 copies are also being made available to the public through social media channels.
But there is (supposedly) a serious side to the initiative, with research showing that hens feel safer in the company of cockerels.
“We know that hens are calmer when they’re around cockerels, but since we couldn’t bring in the real deal, because the eggs we buy in the supermarket are not fertilised, we knew we had to take a slightly alternative approach,” said Happy Egg fieldsman Jean-Paul Michalski.
“Hens are actually very visual creatures, so that’s when we decided to create the first-ever cockerel calendar, just for hens, and see whether it made them happier.”
