Prime cattle “off the richter scale” at Sedgemoor
A very tight entry of 152 prime cattle met a trade described by some as being “off the richter scale” at Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s Sedgemoor market. The trade set new levels and was probably one of the dearest trades seen at Sedgemoor to date, report auctioneers.
Top price was 215.5ppk for a clean, red Limousin heifer (U+3) from Mr D Marshall. A tremendous run of Limousin steers from Mr A R Henson sold particularly well at 215ppk (black U+3) 213ppk (Red E3) 207ppk (Red E3) and 201ppk (Dunn U+3).
Superb Limousin heifers from Messrs T V and E Wotton met calls of 212.5ppk twice (Red U+2 and Black U+3) when quality white Charolais heifers rose to 205ppk (U+3) and 203.5ppk (U+3) from the same farm. White Charolais steers from Messrs T V and E Wotton were also in great demand at 205ppk (U+3) and 198.5ppk (U-3). A very lean (U-1) Blonde heifer from Mr M T Westaway soared to 207ppk, when “clean and lean” Charolais heifers from the same farm achieved 205ppk (U-2) and 204ppk (R2).
Mr M T Westaway also sold a black and white Blue steer (U+3) at 205ppk. 205ppk was bid for a light weight U-2 Blue heifer from Mr S C Preece. Shapely lean red Limousin steers (U+3) from Messrs M J Tuckett and Partners met calls of 204ppk and 203.5ppk.
A shapely (U-3) clean, red, Limousin steer from Messrs G Vauden and Sons achieved 202ppk. Another heifer over 200ppk at 200.5ppk was a U-3 Blue from Messrs J and A Moon.
Best cattle 200ppk plus. Better types mid 190’s. Good cattle around 190ppk for steers and high 180’s for heifers. Commercial cattle around 180ppk, with only full or those lacking in one form or another below.
