Prime lambs reach 286p/kg at Lancaster

The annual Christmas prime lamb show at Lancaster had the strongest show of lambs for some years. The champion pen of lambs was awarded to GR and A Foy, Parkside, Conder Green, with a pen of Beltex that went onto sell for £120 a head or 286p/kg to judge Andrew Finch, Dunbia.

A strong trade throughout saw a market average of 193p/kg and SQQ of 194p/kg for a larger entry of over 1,000 lambs forward. Best quality lambs sold to average 220p/kg. First cross lambs sold around the 200p/kg mark with a larger entry of hill bred lambs forward. Mules sold around 190p/kg with horned lambs selling in and around the mid 180p/kg.
