Record breaking Lleyn ram at Roscommon sale
Records were broken at Roscommon Lleyn sale last weekend (21 September) when Clive Wardrop, Portarlington sold his first prize shearling ram for €1,720 to Wayne Carter, Ballyroan. Named ‘Bod’, this ram is bred from an Alan McDonald ram out of a Louis Hill Ewe.
Other highlights in the rams included Clive Wardrop selling another shearling, ‘Bob’ by the same McDonald sire for €940 to Oisin Quinn, Enniscrone. C and H Long, Lifford sold the first ram into the ring for €700 to G O’Connor, Ballymote. This 2010 born ram, Mileview Torr Head, bred by C and A Kennedy was sired by N Johnston ram. Malachy Harnet, Naas sold a shearling sired by an Alan McDonald ram for €700 to C Richardson, Arvagh.
In the females, the first prize pen of shearlings from John Joe O’Neill, Athlone topped at €200/head when selling to Andrew Dodd, Calary. Clive Wardrop was last into the ring with his shearlings but also realised €200/head selling to Ray Bracken, Dangan. Alan McDonald sold the second prize pen for €190/head to Andrew Dodd, Calary. The third prize pen from Brendan Donnellan, Ballinasloe sold for €175.
In the ewe lambs, Clive & Hazel Long, Mullanbuoy topped with their first prize pen selling for €170/head to Avalon Carli, Rathangan. Clive Wardrop sold the second prize pen for €138/head to Seamus Clarke, Rathdrum. Mary Gordon, Enniscrone also sold a pen for €138/head to Declan Shannon, Kiltimagh. The third prize pen from Brendan Donnellan realised €130/head
